It's that time of year again! We've got good weather and plenty of daylight...

So let's get 2010 Greer Doubles Season kicked off! We'll be hosting random draw doubles starting Monday, May 10th, 2010 at 6:15 PM

WHAT: 1 round of 18 holes Captain's Choice Random Draw Doubles (partners are randomly selected...If there is an odd number of players, the "oddman" will have the option to take 1 extra throw per hole)

WHEN: Every Monday at 6:15 PM

WHERE: Century Park in Greer, South Carolina

WHO: ANYONE CAN PLAY! THIS IS A CASUAL & FUN EVENT OPEN TO ANYONE!

COST: $6 to play
$1 Ace Pool (OPTIONAL - Win the ace pool by getting a hole-in-one during the round! Multiple aces will split ace pool)

End of Doubles Season! Ace Pool at $155.00!

That's right, everyone! August 22nd marks the end of our Doubles Season! The ace pool currently stands at $155.00, with no aces for the ENTIRE SEASON!

That being said, I challenge ALL disc golfers near and far, to come out and slam some chains for our final doubles.

If no one hits an ace at our final doubles, then on Sunday, August 23rd, at 6:00pm, we will have a special hole set up by shelter #6 (between holes 17 and 18) which will be affectionately referred to as, the "challenge" hole!

All players are welcome to try their luck at the "challenge" hole for $1.00 a throw. In the event that you ace the "challenge" hole, you will take home the ace pool for the season.

In the event that nobody hits the "challenge" hole, the ace pool will roll over to next years pot.

Hi everyone!
The results of the "Chains of Hope" tournament are now online for everyone's review!

Even with the reduced attendance from the Columbia tournament, we were still able to raise $557.00! I would definitely like to thank everyone who attended and made that happen, and so would Josh................

Chains of Hope - Charity Disc Golf Tournament

Greer Disc Golf will be hosting a charity tournament on August 1st, 2009. 90% of the proceeds from this tournament will go to benefit the Worley family as Josh begins his battle with pancreatic cancer.

The wife and I are planning on being at the Greer course before doubles this Saturday (9:00am) to get as much maintenance done as possible. Hopefully we will be able to get brush cleared on holes 1, 3, 5, 10, and 14. If anyone can make it out, we would welcome the help. Some tools, if you have them, that would be beneficial to have would be clippers, garden rakes, brushcutters\weedeaters, and tarps.

Doubles Information

Greer Disc Golf will begin its annual doubles season this Saturday, March 28th, at 1:00pm, and will continue each Saturday thereafter.

Doubles will be a random draw, captain's choice format. Entry fee will be $5.00 per person, with payouts for 1st - 3rd place, and up to 4th place if more than 20 players.

August Status Update

Currently, all of the trees that were to be removed have been taken down and mulched. We are currently waiting on a local stump removal company to come out and remove the remaining stumps. Right now, the company that has offered the services FREE to Greer Parks & Recreation are on a paying contract, so a time frame has not been established as to when they will start and\or finish.

Innova has chosen to wait until the stumps are removed before finalizing the course layout. They had some potential pad and pin placements marked a long time ago, but the foot and construction traffic pretty much removed all markings. Once the stumps are removed, the mulch will be spread across the course, and Innova will be called back in to finalize their design. Work will begin immediately after to install pads, sleeves, signs, and pins.

News from Gastonia, NC.....

"Farewell To Arms" Tournament.....In 2 WEEKS!!!!!

I spoke with Ann Cunningham, the Parks And Recreation Director yesterday, and here is the news she had to report. Parks and Rec have signed a lease with Norfolk Southern regarding the land back on holes 5, 6, 7, 8, and 15. Now that the land disputes are over, construction will begin VERY soon. I know this is the moment we have all been waiting for. In honor of this, we will be holding a "Farewell To Arms" tournament on the 17th of this month. Why the 17th, you ask? Well, once the signed lease agreement is back in the hands of Parks and Recreation, the baskets will be removed, and construction will begin. Posted above is the flyer.

Boiling Springs, Doubles, and Dead Owls...

As many of you might have read, Chad will be starting the Hub City Disc Golf Club August 12th, 2007 @ 2:00pm, and christening it with a random draw doubles event. In honor of this, we will NOT have doubles at Greer that weekend, but we will have a work day the Saturday before. Feel free to call me at (864)-7*0*4*-2*9*4*4* or e-mail greerdgc@gmail.com to work out a time and what equipment to bring, if you can attend.
If you have not played the Boiling Springs course, I encourage all of you to give it a run, and help a brotha out. Chad has been very supportive of what we have been trying to accomplish in Greer, and I personally will be returning the favor.

When we next meet for doubles, which will be the 19th of August, we will have hole #7 marked with red spray paint to define what is and what is not 3 feet. This should resolve the occasional "Your foot is smaller\bigger than my foot...." measurement issue.
Holes #2, #6, #9, and #17 will be our rotating CTP holes. Our CTP concept differs quite a bit from some of the other local clubs. We do not run a points system, as most of you might already know, but instead, we offer 1 stroke off of the final score for the group that wins the CTP.
Also this Sunday we began an Ace Pool. Entry for this will remain the standard $1.00 fare, and the full pot will be awarded to whoever hits an ace, no matter what hole. If by some freak act of Congress and/or God someone hits an ace on the same hole as the CTP, they get BOTH.

In regards to "Dead Owls"....
I know there was some concern regarding how some things were, are, or will be done regarding anything we do in Greer. These things should be addressed with me, and nobody else. All of you should know by now that I do my best to work things out so that everybody is happy. But its not a paying gig, either.
A few months ago I approached a fellow club leader and asked "How do I run doubles?". The response I got was: "Doubles runs itself." I am new to running doubles, maintaining a club website, coordinating with Parks and Recreation, organizing disc golf tournaments, maintaining a course, and all other aspects involved in giving people a supportive, but casual-play oriented place to fling plastic.
But alas, I have a life of my own just as you do. I do my best to promote what we have going on out in Greer, and the great things that are coming, so it is an attack on me personally when I hear someone say "Well, he should've had X, Y, and Z ready." or "He shouldn't do it like that, he should be doing it like this." and I have to hear all this in hearsay. People, if there is a problem, come to me directly. I-WILL-LISTEN. On that note......

Greer Doubles Moves to Sundays!!!

That's right, everyone!

It seems that Thursdays are alot more difficult for people (myself included), than most had thought. Bearing that in mind, we have decided to move doubles in Greer to Sundays @ 4:00pm, effective June 3rd, 2007.

It will still be $5.00 to enter, but payouts have improved greatly, which you can see from my previous posting.

United We Stand!

This evening, after the Upstate Disc Golf Club had its weekly doubles, a meeting was held regarding the idea of becoming a unified club. As it stands, the upstate club forums will become the central point for discussion regarding this proposal. Please check the forums there and leave all your comments regarding the idea.

Remember, this isn't about "Club A" wants to do this, but "Club B" doesn't. This is about helping Disc Golf in the upstate area become more organized, more supported as well as supportive, and more fun.

With that being said, let your voice be heard, even if you do not currently hold a club membership at any of our local DGC's.

1: Congratulations go out to Aaron Cunningham on winning the Iron Man Tournament this past Saturday, with an astonishing 52! Even though we have cleared out and even opened up some of the fairways out here at Greer, shooting par is still a formidable challenge, let alone hitting below par and with only 1 disc! Amazing!

3: By all definitions, the Iron Man tournament was a great success, however, we just aren't raising the kind of money we need to show that the disc golf community as a whole wants this course. As I stated at the Iron Man, we have been fighting our best to keep this course alive(and by alive, I mean not ripped from the ground for another baseball diamond and/or dog park), and the weaker our numbers, the harder it is to show that we want this course. All in all we raised $233.00 dollars that day, a far cry from what we need.

4: The above being said, I have been kicking a few ideas around in my head to try and bring in the extra funds needed. The first idea is to have a "Friday Night Doubles" season, beginning in May. The second, is a doubles tournament called "The Par Shooter Showdown". The P.S.S. will basically flow as such: If a team fails to shoot par or below on any hole, they are disqualified.

5: Innova has been out evaluating our course and working on a revision of their own. In the meantime, we have already presented a revision map to Ann at Parks & Recreation, which you can view by clicking the image below:

As I stated before, I really need feedback from everyone on any of these items. The more feedback, the stronger the showing of support.

The scoring has officially been completed for the Iron Man Tournament. We had 2 discrepancies, which are highlighted in yellow. Those two scores were miscalculated the day of the tournament, but have been fixed per the spreadsheet "AutoSum" functionality.

We had a really great tournament, and would like to thank everyone for coming out.

#1: We will all meet at picnic shelter 6 for the registration, tournament introduction, and award ceremony.

#2: If Innova can pull it off (they seem confident), we should have Iron Man mini's available for all players the day of the tournament.

#3: We really need to know who all is coming to the Iron Man tournament, this April 14th. We have alot of players saying they will definitely come, but an e-mail or phone confirmation would be great. We do not want to turn anyone away, so if we can get your name on the Iron Man confirmed list, you won't be turned away the day of. The number to confirm participation is 864*631*8093. Additional Details Regarding The Iron Man Tournament

First and foremost, this will be cash only for entry. Since this is the GRDGC's first tournament, cash will be required so we can give payout to first place once the tournament has completed.

Second, we have added mandatory doglegs on the following holes:
1 - dogleg to the left side of tree directly in front of short tee.
3 - dogleg to the right of second pine in front of tee.
4 - dogleg to the left of outside gap.
6 - dogleg to the left of outside gap.
18 - dogleg to the right of picnic shelter.

Third, holes 12, 13 & 15 will be played as such:
12 will play from short tee pad.
13 will play to short pin position.
15 will play from the short tee.

Biscuits is back....... The GRDGC club has not been abolished, and I am back at the reigns, after a 2 month hiatus... I am looking forward to getting the ball rolling again, and hopefully will have some wonderful news to share after tommorow regarding course plans, and a possible tournament in April!!!

The first meeting of the Greer Recreational Disc Golf Club will be held on January 2nd and the following meetings will be held on the first Tuesday of each month. The time will be 6:00 p.m. and the location will be at the picnic shelter at what is now Hole #12 at the Greer course. This will be subsequent to change, but I will post any changes on here as early as possible. Hope to see you there.

To all:

Many announcements this month.

The Greer Disc Golf Course has officially been adopted by the Greer Club. A strong relationship with Greer Parks and Recreation has been in the works for a long time, and has developed into a great partnership. We will continue to work with Parks and Rec to assist them in maintaining and improving the course.

As many of you know, I am relocating to Raleigh for employment reasons. Because of this, I will be turning over leadership of the Greer club to CornBrad, who has openly expressed a strong desire to see the Greer course develop into an enriching disc golf experience. CB also assisted with the first course revision map which has been turned into Parks and Rec.

I will continue to work with Parks and Rec, and CB, in a limited capacity (due to location) until the transition from myself to CB is finalized.
